The coronavirus is still adapting to its new host — humans — and the more it spreads, the more chance it has to mutate and create new variants. Vaccines will help to reduce transmission, but so will doubling down on public health measures, including wearing a well-fitting mask with multiple layers. Dr Clare Rock, an epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital, explains what makes the new variants likely more infectious.
