It's been one year since Afghanistan's US-supported government fell to the Taliban. Despite initial promises of reform, women and girls have been largely banned from public life.
On Saturday, the militants broke up a rare women's rally in the capital Kabul. The Taliban fired warning shots and physically assaulted the women marching past the education ministry. The protesters were demanding food, freedom and permission to work.
Before the Taliban regained power, Afghanistan had seen democratic reforms and improvements to living standards. But as our next report shows, the gains made over twenty years were lost almost overnight.
