Home Secretary admits 'failure' on securing UK borders

Suella Braverman has told MPs that the government has failed to deal with migration and control of the UK border, after more than 40,000 migrants crossed the channel so far this year.

She maintained that it was not her or the government's fault, but "the people who are coming here illegally."

When pressed by Conservative Tim Houghton on how a child in a war zone could legally claim asylum in the UK, she said they would generally have to be within the UK to lodge an application.
