The Met Office has issued its first-ever red heat alert, warning of extreme temperatures in parts of England on Monday and Tuesday.

A "national emergency" has been declared by the UK Health Security Agency and temperatures could hit an unprecedented 40C.

The extreme heat is expected to impact the running of key public services and pose a severe risk to public health with fit and healthy people susceptible to illness and death - not just high risk groups.
