Harry Potter flagship New York store hopes to bring “some magic into people's lives”

Fans will soon be able to step inside the magical world of Harry Potter as the world's only official Harry Potter flagship store opens in New York City on Thursday, June 3.

A Fawkes the Phoenix model swoops from the ceiling, Dumbledore's Griffin rotates in the store's atrium, and more than 50 wands, including the Golden Snitch wand, will be on display in the Wand Shop.

"It's been a really tough year in a lot of people's lives," Karl Durrant, vice president and general manager of Warner Bros. retail division, told Reuters during a media preview tour on Friday. "We have a giant Fawkes the Phoenix hanging over our entrance at Fifth Avenue and I sometimes see that as a bit of a sign for the store – a phoenix from the flames. We're really confident that as we come out of the pandemic, it's the right time for us to open an experience like this and bring some magic into people's lives."

Visitors will get to pose for photos inside a London phone box to transport them to the Ministry of Magic, play at the interactive wand table, and step inside Hagrid's boots.

The retail store, at over 21,000 square feet spanning three floors, will sell the largest collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts products.
