The award-winning creator of the BBC One hit Happy Valley has told Newsnight she is overwhelmed by the reaction to the series’ finale on Sunday night.
In her first interview since the show’s end, Sally Wainwright admitted she was nervous before it went out and revealed that Sarah Lancashire, who played Catherine Cawood, helped shape the climax by pushing everything “a bit further”.
The episode had the biggest overnight TV viewing figures for a drama in the UK since May 2021, when the Line of Duty series six finale aired.
