A former police officer turned notorious gang leader is asking his supporters to join mass protests in Haiti.
Jimmy Cherizier, also known as "Barbecue", launched a self-styled revolution against elites before President Moise's assassination, but human rights groups argued that he was targeting the opposition.
Now, he has called his supporters into the streets and has threatened to use violence.
A team of US security and law enforcement officials is travelling to Haiti to assist in the investigation into the assassination of the Haitian president, the Pentagon said on Sunday, but Haiti's request for US troops seems unlikely to be met, so far.
Haiti is now teetering on the verge of a political void, without a president, a parliament or a functioning supreme court.
Al Jazeera’s Patty Culhane reports from the US capital, Washington, DC.
