An explosion at an oil terminal in Guinea's capital, Conakry, on Monday, killed at least 11 people and left 84 people injured, according to a senior police officer.

The blast occurred at the main oil terminal in the city and resulted in a huge fire and thick black smoke. The impact was felt in the Kaloum administrative district situated in the downtown area of Conakry, blowing out the windows of several nearby homes and forcing hundreds of people to flee.

Firefighters rushed to the area, while several tanker trucks left the depot, escorted by soldiers and police. The government has announced that an investigation will be launched to determine the cause of the fire.
