Defence Secretary Ben Wallace says he recognises that the British Army has been underfunded for years, and that "the PM gets it".

Mr Wallace added that the global situation had changed with the world becoming "more unstable and insecure" in recent years, and that the military had become "hollowed out" over successive governments.
