Global National: Oct. 15, 2022 | Deadly Turkey coal mine explosion kills at least 41

A town in northern Turkey is in mourning after a massive explosion at a coal mine killed dozens of workers and injured many more. 110 miners were on site at the time of the blast, with at least 41 who have lost their lives. Funerals for some of the dead took place on Saturday, with Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attending at least one. Reggie Cecchini has more.

In Canada, there are growing concerns a recession will hit sooner than first predicted. There are already worrying signs — a housing market slowdown, scorching inflation — and rising interest rates. Many economists are predicting a mild recession will start in the first quarter of 2023. But will the threat of an economic downturn put a damper on holiday spending? Sarah Offin reports.

Today is pregnancy and infant loss awareness day. As many as one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and one in six Canadian couples experiences infertility in their lifetime. There are renewed calls for greater support for people grieving those losses and trying to grow their families. As Caryn Lieberman reports, one of the biggest issues may be access to fertility care.
