Palestinians seeking refuge in Rafah are bracing for an imminent all-out Israeli assault in Gaza’s last remaining safe zone. The U.S. says it will not support an offensive in Rafah, saying it would be a “disaster.” On Saturday, the European Union (EU) said an offensive in Rafah would have “catastrophic consequences.” David Akin reports.

On the heels of the hottest year in recorded history, 2024 is shaping up to be even warmer. According to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service, last month marked the hottest January on record. The impact of rising temperatures is being felt across Canada and as Megan Cobb reports, it’s leaving some concerned about what it could mean for the year ahead.

The culture of Canadian hockey was under the microscope this week, as five current and former NHL players made their first court appearance for charges of sexual assault. They all played for Canada’s World Junior team in 2018, and four years later, Hockey Canada admitted to paying off their accuser in civil court. After the news surfaced the organization has been undergoing major changes, Hockey Canada’s new CEO and president Katherine Henderson sat down with Global News to talk about those changes.
