REWIND BACK TO 2009 when "football" in Australia was exclusively in reference to AFL and Rugby League. Football - as soccer - was merely a blip in the radar of Australian sporting consciousness, despite it being the most played and followed sport in the world.

There was a passionate few that lived for the game though, including mining magnate Clive Palmer, who believed so much in the potential of the sport, he bought his own A-League team.

Fast forward to 2023 in the midst of Matildas Mania, and Australia's sporting culture is truly seeing a tidal shift in more ways than one.
