Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling blamed U.S. President Donald Trump for the projected losses of Sen. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in the Georgia Senate runoff elections, stating that Trump and some other Republican politicians “discouraged voting by Republican voters,” which hurt Republican candidates.
Sterling made the comments as he delivered an update as ballots continue to be counted on Wednesday in both elections.
Sterling also said he believed both Democrats, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, would collect enough votes to avoid recounts in their respective races
