Fierce fighting is continuing in the Gaza Strip. Israel's military says it has carried out airstrikes on over 300 Hamas targets in the past 24 hours.
In Rafah, in the south of the territory and in nearby Khan Younis, rescuers have been trying to pull people from under the rubble following attacks late on Wednesday. Strikes were also reported in the north of the Gaza Strip. Hamas-appointed officials say scores of civilians have been killed.

Israel says it's not expecting any hostages to be released by Hamas before Friday. The country's national security adviser said a deal with the militant group has been delayed, although the reason still remains unclear. An agreed pause in fighting in Gaza is also on hold. Qatar, who has played a key role in these negotiations, says an announcement about the temporary truce could come in the next few hours.
