25 years ago today, the world of Canadian Professional Wrestling and the wider wrestling community lost an icon.

Owen Hart was the younger brother of WWE Hall of Famer Bret "The Hitman" Hart, and part of the legendary Hart family of professional wrestlers based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. During his storied career, Hart became a two-time WWF Intercontinental Champion, a one-time WWF European Champion, and a four-time WWF World Tag Team Champion, as well as winning the 1994 King of the Ring tournament.

Disaster struck on May 23, 1999 at WWE's "Over The Edge" Pay-Per-View event when Hart, descending from the arena rafters in his Blue Blazer superhero persona, suddently fell to the ring below. He was pronounced dead shortly after, with the announcement of his passing being read live on the air by WWE play-by-play commentator Jim Ross.

Hart was 34 years old.
