Parisians and French Prime Minister Jean Castex spoke out after a man was seen on camera slapping President Emmanuel Macron in the face while he greeted locals in southeastern France on Tuesday.

Castex said it was "democracy that is being targeted," telling the French National Assembly that democracy allows for debate, dialogue and the "face-off of ideas," but violence, verbal aggression or, "most of all, physical aggression" should not be tolerated.

People in Paris had similar thoughts on the actions of the man, saying that they can disagree with the president and vote against him in the election being held in 2022, but slapping a person is not right.
