Three Paris policemen followed a man into his office, beat him, then teargassed the office, all without a warrant… supposedly because he wasn’t wearing a mask on entry.
French authorities opened an investigation into the incident after CCTV footage started circulating on social media. In the video, you can see the officers striking the man – a black music producer known only as Michel – repeatedly with their fists, knees and batons. It happened at Michel’s office/music studio in Paris’ 17th arrondissement. The police involved initially claimed Michel tried to steal their weapons and provoked their aggression, according to reports. The three policemen were reportedly forced out of the building before being reinforced by colleagues.
Additional footage taken by neighbors outside the building shows police throwing tear-gas grenades into the studio. Once Michel left the building, an officer pointed a gun at him. Michel says the police also hurled racist abuse at him.
