President Macron has refused to accept the resignation of his prime minister - instead urging him to stay on for the sake of stability.

The left-wing coalition, known as the New Popular Front, led by Jean-Luc Melenchon, has come first with 180 seats. President Macron's centrist Ensemble has come second with 159 seats. And, despite winning the first round, Marine le Pen's National Rally comes third with 143 seats.
