A former lawmaker in India's parliament, convicted of kidnapping, was shot dead along with his brother while police were escorting them for a medical check-up in a brazen killing caught on live television.

The dramatic footage showed former lawmaker, Atiq Ahmed, and his brother, Ashraf Ahmed, surrounded by media before gunmen, who were posing as journalists, shot at them with pistols.

A police official said the two victims, allegedly kingpins in a local criminal organization, were both killed, and the suspected gunmen were arrested.
