Forgotten Genocides: The Sin of Silence (RT special documentary)

In RT America's special documentary "Forgotten Genocides: The Sin of Silence," RT producer and historian Dr. Joseph Ricci examines some of history's ignored tragedies. Why are some genocides incessantly remembered and recalled in our world today while others have been tossed to the trash heap of history? It took more than a century for the United States to affirm what many the world over have known about the Armenian Genocide, when 1.5 million Armenians were killed or driven to exile in the waning days of the Ottoman Empire. Recognizing the Armenian Genocide is certainly a moral satisfaction, but will it have material consequences, and will the same courtesy be extended to other groups who have suffered similar injustices? During World War II the brutal Ustasha regime of the Independent State of Croatia slaughtered over 500 thousand Orthodox Serbs, Jews, and Roma. But the West is far from recognizing this tragedy. To do so would put a damper on a geopolitical narrative spun during the breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s and the bombing of Kosovo in 1999. "Forgotten Genocides" examines these two tragedies and asks: "Could a forgotten genocide be occurring in our midst right now?" In recent decades Christians in the Middle East have suffered immensely from instability, war, and religious extremism. Will Christians soon disappear from their original homeland? Will this be just one more genocide forgotten because it did not meet geopolitical criteria? RT America's special documentary "Forgotten Genocides: The Sin of Silence" examines all of these crucial questions with a host of experts.
