In 2010, our Air Force beefed up our defence capabilities by bringing in fighter jets that travel at Mach 1.8 - almost twice the speed of sound.

Remember what it was like waking up on Christmas morning to find a shiny new bicycle under the tree? Well, that's how the men and women of our Air Force are feeling right now.

They've just taken delivery of the first new combat aircraft replacing our aging fleet of F-111s. Each Super Hornet - or Rhino as they're known - costs sixty million dollars and can reach speeds of almost two thousand kilometres an hour. Naturally enough, our test pilots have been itching to take them for a spin. Liam Bartlett was lucky enough to hitch a ride.
