Five stories to know for May 14: Israel ground troops at Gaza border, CDC mask update, Nancy Pelosi, AOC and Marjorie Taylor Greene, Rhode Island shooting and India’s battle against COVID-19 continues.

1. Israel mounted air strikes and fired artillery on a network of Palestinian militant tunnels under Gaza. Palestinian rocket attacks on Israeli towns persist, as hostilities entered their fifth day. Gaza's ruling Hamas group launched the rocket attacks at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in retaliation for Israeli police clashes with Palestinians near Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Also, three rockets were launched from Lebanon toward northern Israel on Thursday but landed in the Mediterranean sea, causing no damage or casualties, the Israeli military said.

2. The CDC says no masks are necessary for fully vaccinated people in most places.

3. Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of "verbal assault and abuse" against Democratic lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

4. Nine people were wounded, three of them critically, in a Providence, Rhode Island shooting. Police said a vehicle pulled up outside a home and the occupants began shooting and people inside the home returned fire.

5. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is "on a war footing" in its fight against COVID-19 as the official tally of infections crossed 24 million.
