Europe is experiencing an aggressive surge in virus infections - with daily deaths steadily rising to match the peak of the first wave in spring.
More than 50,000 people have now died in the UK, making it Europe's worst-affected country for COVID-19 deaths.
Spain's number of dead within 24 hours has also increased to more than 400, its highest since the second wave began.
France is now using mobile units to treat non-COVID patients as its hospitals fail to cope and Germany is also struggling.
