In an exclusive interview with DW's Nina Haase, Enrico Letta talks about the role of Italy within the EU and how it would change if a right-wing coalition under Georgia Meloni from the Brothers of Italy were to win the elections this week. "The choice is between being at the very heart of Europe (...) or being out, being in a league of nations, having Orban or the Polish government as allies."

The lead candidate of the Partito Democratico also said support for Ukraine would come into question if a right-wing coalition took over. "Salvini is strongly against sanctions and he continued to repeat that the European Union and Italy needs to withdraw sanctions." Letta also advocated for a strong European Union, arguing that the Europe must not become an "American colony or a Chinese colony."
