The leaders of the 27 European Union countries have agreed to provide Ukraine with a new 50-billion-euro (US$54 billion) aid package to support its war-torn economy. This decision was made despite threats from Hungary to veto the move.
European Council President Charles Michel announced the agreement that was reached in the first hour of a summit he was chairing in Brussels.
European Parliament president Roberta Metsola said, "Today is a good day for Europe."
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed it as a “very important” decision.
