Hungary has provoked more criticism from the European Union, this time over a discount fuel policy.
Only drivers with Hungarian license plates are eligible for cheaper petrol, while those with foreign-registered cars have to pay market rates.
The move to restrict price caps to Hungarian vehicles led to the threat of court action by the EU’s industry chief.
However, the country's prime minister insists high inflation, made worse by Russia's war in Ukraine, requires drastic action.
Al Jazeera’s Laura Burdon-Manley reports.
