Environment Secretary George Eustice has told Sky News that a windfall tax on record energy firm revenues "might deter investment" from oil firms, who are "paying enough tax".

Asked specifically whether he believed energy companies are paying enough tax, despite big profits recently announced by BP, the minister said: "Well, for now, yes. And that's why we've chosen not to do it, because they already pay higher tax.

But pressed on whether he would rule out a windfall tax at any point, Mr Eustice said the government never rule anything out and keep options under review.
