Elephants Feast at Deadly Plastic Dump

Two more elephants have died at a deadly refuse site in Sri Lanka, which is littered with polythene bags and plastic packaging and has seen around 20 elephant deaths in the last eight years.

Wildlife vet Nihal Pushpakumara observed that, after gorging on the damaging plastics, the elephants stop eating and become too weak to support themselves. When that happens ‘they can’t consume food or water, which quickens their death.’
