Edmonton Oilers general manager Ken Holland held a press conference on Sunday after the NHL team fired former head coach Jay Woodcroft and assistant coach Dave Manson.
The "difficult" decision to fire Woodcroft and Manson was made even after the Oilers stopped a losing streak Saturday night, with a 4-1 victory in Seattle. The win was only the third of the season for Edmonton in 13 games.
"Is 12 games or 13 games enough?" Holland pondered in his opening remarks. "I think if you wait another ten games and things don't change, it's probably too late. So we just felt that something needed to be done."
Woodcroft took over the reins with the team part way through the 2021-22 season after Dave Tippett was let go. He posted a record of 79-41-13 in 143 games behind the Oilers’ bench.
Holland was joined at Sunday's presser by the team's newly-appointed head coach Kris Knoblauch. The pair took questions from the media, while delivering a statement on the future of the Oilers.
In his new role, Knoblauch will be assisted by former Oilers defenceman Paul Coffey.
