Two Ukrainian journalists have just been named as the recipients of DW's Freedom of Speech Award for 2022. Video journalist Mstyslav Chernov and photographer Evgeniy Maloletka of the Associated Press, spent 20 days in Mariupol under constant bombardment.
The last international journalists left in Mariupol, they risked their lives daily to record and send out footage documenting the war in a city cut off from the outside world.
The DW Freedom of Speech Award honors people who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote freedom of expression and report the truth.
A warning to viewers - this report includes distressing images. For safety reasons, the laureates didn't want to be interviewed on camera.
