"Drag is not a crime": Performers, fans flock to RuPaul's DragCon

Members of the LGBTQ2S community, allies and drag performers flocked to the Los Angeles Convention Center on Friday as the latest edition of RuPaul's DragCon opened its doors during a time of uncertainty for those who engage in the brand of performance.

Many of those on the floor tried to stress that drag is "not a crime," including organizers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, as several U.S. states pass legislation to put restrictions or outright ban on drag shows.

"It's not a threat to anyone. Let's be clear about that," Bailey told reporters. "Whatever some people may say, drag is not a threat, drag is not a crime, drag is not dangerous."

Performances were held, including Canada's Drag Race Season 1 winner Priyanka performing alongside the Teletubbies, alongside panels and other events. Various performers from renditions of RuPaul's Drag Race, such as Cheddar Gorgeous, Manila Luzon and recent U.S. winner Sasha Colby, were also on hand to meet fans.
