Hundreds of pet owners in Madrid, Spain took their cats and dogs to church on Tuesday, where they were blessed by priests marking Saint Anthony’s Day, the patron saint of animals. Father Angel Garcia of Saint Anthony’s church also delivered mass in front of dozens of animals, among a chorus of barks that could be heard from the pews.

Begona, the owner of 11-year-old Coco, said her cat had avoided death three times thanks to Saint Anthony’s protection.

“Three times I had an appointment to put her down because this breed is very delicate, they don’t have a nose. I always take her to St. Anthony as I did with my previous cat and she is 11-years-old. He is taking good care of her,” Begona said before entering the church to attend mass.
