California Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized U.S. Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday amid the spate of shootings that occurred in the previous three days that left multiple people dead. Newsom said he had not heard a single word or message of condolence from the Republican leader.

He said the federal government needs to do its job, but they need to call out "one party that are obstructionists," appearing to refer to Republicans by referencing McCarthy.

"I'm not interested in the status quo. Do your damn job," he said. "You care about public safety? B.S. Unless you are addressing the number one cause of death for children last year and that's guns. Don't lay claim you give a damn about public safety."

He also blasted some judges for "rolling back the laws" that were established on gun control in the state. He stressed despite the shootings in the state, "gun safety works," but that they need partners including the House of Representatives to take action.

Seven people were killed in two related shootings Monday at agricultural facilities in the California coastal community of Half Moon Bay south of San Francisco, and a suspect was in custody, officials said. Four people were found dead and a fifth injured from gunshot wounds at one location, and three others were found dead at another several miles away, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office.

The day before, a gunman died after shooting and killing 10 people and wounding at least 10 others at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dance club during a Lunar New Year celebration, police have confirmed. The suspect was found inside a white van linked to the incident with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said Sunday during an update at the City of Monterey Park Civic Center.
