Just a day after coming within inches of losing his life, after being shot at a rally in Pennsylvania Donald Trump is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention where he is set to be officially declared the party's presidential candidate. Calling for unity, the former president told his supporters that he would "remain defiant". The FBI says it is treating the incident as an attempted assassination and possible domestic terrorism. But they say they have yet to identify a motive.
The United States has a long history of political violence. And even though both candidates are now calling on their supporters to tone down the rhetoric, the political polarization, which culminated in Saturday's attempted assassination of a former president, is something that both sides have helped stoke.
