Devastating floods have struck the southeastern US state of Tennessee, killing 22 people. Around 20 others are missing. Record-breaking rainfall sent flash floods surging through central areas of the state, sweeping away homes and vehicles. Telephone lines and mobile phone communications were disrupted and roads became impassable. The national weather center says one county was drenched by 43 centimeters of rain in just 24 hours. Children and adults drowned, and many people are still missing. In the tangled debris, even the rescuers fear it might be too late to find survivors. The ones left are beginning to salvage what they can of their livelihoods. As local residents set up makeshift food stations to help their neighbors, US President Biden promised aid. And Federal support can't come soon enough as devastated communities in Tennessee take stock of the damage.
