Desperate rescue effort after boat carrying migrants crashes into rocky cliffs of Greek island

At least 80 people, including 18 children, were rescued early on Thursday after a boat carrying migrants ran aground in stormy seas off the Greek island of Kythira.

Eyewitness video showed rescue teams throwing ropes and life buoys to people trapped between rocky cliffs and the rough waves. Some people could be seen in the water. The wreckage of a vessel could also be seen washed against the rocks nearby.

According to those rescued, 15 were still feared missing and a search and rescue operation was being conducted.
