The diverse jury deliberating on Monday shortly after the prosecutorial and defence teams finished delivering their closing arguments.
Chauvin is now facing up to 40 years in federal prison.
Reaction poured in following the verdict on Tuesday, with Attorney Ben Crump speaking in Minneapolis, joined by Floyd's family.
U.S. President Biden said following the verdict that he had spoken with the family of George Floyd, adding that he assured them his administration would continue its fight to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
Black Americans from Missouri to Florida to Minnesota cheered, marched, hugged, waved signs and sang jubilantly in the streets.
