Danish legislators on Monday passed a law to ban mink breeding until December 2021, following last month's cull of approximately 17 million mink because researchers had found a COVID-19 mutation in the animals.
But officials will now exhume millions of mink from mass graves after some carcasses resurfaced because of fears they could contaminate ground water.
The country's mink farmers are demanding compensation for their businesses which they say have been totally destroyed.
