Hakeem Jeffries and Pete Aguilar, the chair and vice-chair of the House Democratic Caucus, fielded questions on Tuesday, including on the Senate's bipartisan gun deal.

"We're going support the framework that the Senate has put forward so far while we wait the full legislative text to see the details, but Senator [Chris] Murphy you know said himself the metric we're going to use here is - will this save lives? That's what the House Democratic Caucus is concerned about," Aguilar said.

"Many of our advocacy groups and families, people I've talked to on the ground have embraced this development as a meaningful step in the right direction," Jeffries added.

Republican House Minority Whip Steve Scalise said they needed more details on the gun deal before they could comment on any specifics.

Republican members also reacted to the Jan. 6 committee hearings, saying that the Jan. 6 Capitol riot was not top of mind for Americans.

"There are a lot of things on the minds of the American people and it's not Jan. 6," said Mike Johnson, the vice-chair of the Republican Caucus. "We've got record inflation, soaring gas prices, unhinged crime in our cities and uninhibited immigration," he added.
