The health minister in India's Maharashtra state has ordered staff to "closely monitor" cases of a COVID-19 variant they have identified locally as the "Delta Plus."
India said Wednesday it has found about 40 cases of the new variant carrying a mutation that scientists are concerned could make it more transmissible.
Variant cases in the country have been seen in the states of Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh, but are also being seen in other countries including one in Canada and 83 in the U.S.
