Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride has urged both Israel and Iran to seek "de-escalation" after Israel attacked Iran overnight.

Mr Stride said Israel had the "absolute right to defend itself".

US sources have told NBC news in America that Israel carried out a strike on Iran overnight.

It follows an Iranian attack on Israel over the weekend which was in response to a strike on Iran's consulate in Damascus.
