Dani Shapiro on how COVID changed the way she uses a planner

The uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic is reflected in the pages of author Dani Shapiro’s Filofax planner.

As she spent more time at home, plans canceled, Shapiro couldn’t bring herself to cross out engagements in her planner, so instead used Wite-Out to make corrections. And now, to avoid putting anything down in ink, she uses Post-it notes to mark plans in her Filofax.

This new practice has become a metaphor for the author. “What I realized is that plans are just provisional and always subject to change, that there is nothing that we can be certain about right now,” Shapiro said.
