The United Kingdom is delaying its final stage of reopening as the more transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant becomes dominant there and is surging among unvaccinated young people.
But there is optimism for global vaccination efforts, as new studies suggest that Pfizer and AstraZeneca's vaccines are more effective than previously thought at preventing hospitalizations against the variant.
