The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands opened briefly on Wednesday, offering haircuts, manicures and even yoga sessions to about 50 guests in protest of a COVID-19 lockdown that was kept in place for cultural venues.

Last weekend, the country loosened its restrictions to allow places like hair salons to open, but required spaces like museums to keep their doors shut. In response, the museum decided to put on a show with a live symphony orchestra keeping attendees entertained as they had their locks trimmed and nails renewed.

Emilie Gordenker, the director of the museum, questioned keeping museums closed given how they were able to easily keep guests safe.

"The way we set this up is also according to the rules, there is plenty of social distancing. We just don't understand why we are closed and a beauty salon is open at this point," she said.
