Thousands of people converged on the Washington Monument on Sunday to protest the Biden administration’s mask and vaccine policies amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gathering at the base of the Washington Monument and then marching to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., protesters held signs that read “Make love not Mandates” and “Coercion is not a Choice.”

On Jan. 13, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine-or-testing mandate for large businesses, which they deemed an improper imposition on the lives and health of many Americans. However, the top court did endorse a separate federal vaccine requirement for health-care facilities.

Many U.S. companies have also implemented mandatory mask-wearing policies to protect their workers, as the country continues to deal with the highly-infectious Omicron variant.

COVID-19 has killed more than 860,000 people in the U.S. over the course of the two-year-long coronavirus pandemic.
