Experts are saying the Omicron COVID-19 variant is seemingly producing shorter-lived immunity following infection.

“Because we’re not doing PCRs, we do not have a really good handle on the amount of re-infection,” says Dr. Bruce Mazer, Associate Scientific Director, COVID-19 Immunity Task Force.

But experts suspect re-infection is happening.

Given that 81 per cent of Canadians are double vaccinated against COVID-19, we’re still seeing a sixth wave. After all, it’s not an impossible scenario according to the medical director of the Vancouver Infectious Diseases Centre, Dr. Brian Conway.

“It is possible to develop COVID after having recovered from it fairly recently,” Conway says.
