A policy stopping migrants from travelling from the Canary Islands to the mainland has been challenged by a Spanish court. The policy had effectively turned the islands into a prison for migrants. It also created a market for people smugglers - and prompted for stowaways to risk their lives - just to get from one part of the country to another.
