Coronavirus: What is a “circuit-breaker” lockdown strategy?

A number of Alberta physicians are sounding the alarm on the rising number of COVID-19 cases, with some calling on the province to put in place stricter measures to curb the spread of the virus. They also say what is needed is a “circuit-breaker” lockdown.

The concept is simple — a set of short, tight restrictions with a deadline, making it more digestible to the public while also helping slow the transmission of the virus, said Dr. Isaac Bogoch, an infectious disease specialist based out of Toronto General Hospital.
