Coronavirus: New Brunswick begins "historic" COVID-19 vaccination process

New Brunswick on Saturday has begun its vaccination process for COVID-19 in Miramichi.

President/CEO of Horizon Health Network Karen McGrath and the province's chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell delivered remarks about the "historic" day, stating staff will be working 12 -hour days amid the rollout, starting with 2,000 vaccinations a week.

Also, Pauline Gauvin, an 84-year-old resident of Shannex Losier Hall in Miramichi, was the first New Brunswicker to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for COVID-19.

New Brunswick reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and said 52 active cases remain in the province. According to the province, the number of confirmed cases in New Brunswick is 573, of which 512 have recovered. There have been eight deaths.

Three patients are hospitalized, two of which are in intensive care. As of Friday, 144,554 tests have been conducted.
