U.S. President-elect Joe Biden received his first dose of the Pfizer Inc COVID-19 vaccine on Monday at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del., and he urged Americans to get the vaccine when it is widely available.

At age 78, Biden is in the high-risk category for the highly contagious respiratory disease.

With supplies limited, many states have put healthcare workers and nursing home residents first in line for vaccinations, in keeping with recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"I think that the Administration deserves some credit for getting this off the ground," Biden said. He also urged people to wear masks and advised, "If you don't have to travel, don't travel."
